Ryder Cup build-up: What they said
Key quotes on Tuesday during the build-up to this weekend's Ryder Cup:
"He was actually just telling a tonne of jokes at lunch, none that I can repeat in this room obviously... Depends what rude means to you."
-- Xander Schauffele on United States teammate Patrick Cantlay's sense of humour.
"No guarantees on the tattoo. I certainly don't have any on my body, just to let you in. But I'm sure we can find a suitable way to celebrate if it goes our way on Sunday."
-- European captain Luke Donald on whether he will follow in former skipper Thomas Bjorn's footsteps and get a tattoo if his team win.
"He might have an American accent and lives in Georgia, but there's a few of us that live in America and a few of us that are married to American girls. It's just the way it is. We are all Team Europe this week."
-- Donald on Austrian Sepp Straka's US links.
"Not really, no."
-- Straka on if he has mixed feelings playing against the USA.
"I love Rory, we get on extremely well, he's a role model of mine... but yeah we play each other in the Ryder Cup and we hate each other for 18 holes. And again it's nothing personal, my wife knows, that hey if Jill (Thomas' wife Jillian Wisniewski) tees up in the Ryder Cup for the other team I'm gonna try to beat her pretty bad!"
-- USA's Justin Thomas on his friendship with European star Rory McIlroy.
"Nicer than watching bad memories or times when you've chopped it around."
-- Tommy Fleetwood on pausing during his practice round to watch highlights of his 2018 heroics on a big screen.
"I just like hanging out and talking and drinking Diet Cokes -- probably not allowed to say that. Pepsi maybe? I'm going to get in trouble for that."
-- Shane Lowry mentions a tournament partner's rival during his press conference.
"I would not put myself in the same sentence as Abba. All I try to do is play golf."
-- Ludvig Aberg on other famous Swedes.
"I can't speak for the guys that played in the past, but it seems that we probably hate each other less than guys used to in the past."
-- Viktor Hovland on the feuds of Ryder Cups past.
